Accidents are the leading cause of
injury and death of children between the ages of 1 and 9. In London,
600 children per month are injured; 95% of these accidents are
preventable.
The Children's Safety Village
consists of a main building with two classrooms and a miniature
town. The Village is being built on four acres of land provided by
the Upper Thames Conservation Authority - with up to 30 scaled-down
buildings, roadways, traffic lights and signs, an operational
railway crossing, and a school bus. After classroom instruction by
various safety personnel, the children demonstrate their knowledge
of safety through the use of electric cars, bicycles, and walking
tours.
The target market is approximately
15,000 students from Grade 1 to Grade 4 each school year in the
London Area.
The preceeding information was
obtained from the Children's Safety Village website.
